When to schedule your newborn session is a common question most pregnant moms have. Of course that is also pared with millions of other questions you may have during your pregnancy, especially if it is your first!! This time can be so stressful. You know you want special images of your baby but you may put it on the back burner while you are planning and preparing for so many new changes this new baby will bring. You may be thinking, that can wait or once baby is here and we are settled I can look for a photographer. I want to let you know if that is your approach that is totally fine. But most newborn photographers are booked out a few months, so putting it off may be a bad idea. Also waiting until baby is already here could push your newborn photo back weeks and feel rushed.

The simple answer is, reach out to your chosen photographer during your second trimester. This is when I suggest new moms contact me. Newborn photography images you see with the baby all curled up, or posed in a bucket, or asleep and relaxed in a baby bed usually happen with in the first 2 weeks after birth. This is a special window where infants are still really flexible after birth. This is a time when babies are so sleepy, after this they start having longer awake periods and it makes it difficult to calm the baby for the session. They are also fresh from the whom where they were squished into these poses, so it is much more natural for them.

Contacting me early makes sure we have lots of time to plan your session and design it for your personal tastes and style. It will also secure you a date on my calendar. I take a limited number of newborn photography session per month to give each client the exceptional client experience and customer service they deserve.

Another reason to plan for your session while your tiny newborn is less than 2 weeks old is because they change so fast!!! Your baby grows at an alarming rate! From birth to age 6 months, a baby might grow 1/2 to 1 inch a month and gain 5 to 7 ounces a week. Those first few weeks fly by in a blur of diaper changes, late night feedings, mid-day naps, and cuddles. You will want to remember just how tiny they were and how they looked so fresh and new. My newborn photography studio helps create that gift that freezes these moments and gives you beautiful art of your baby and family to cherish for their lifetime.
