The whole reason people want a newborn photoshoot is to help them remember this time, to push the pause button on this memory. These moments just don’t last and your baby grows way too fast! That’s the best part of my job. I love hearing moms reaction and joy over her images, knowing how special their newborn photos will be in the days and years to come.

Printing your images so you can see them often and enjoy them is always something they look forward to. But as a new mom, you get tired, your best intentions sometimes get forgotten. Or you are waiting to afford good printing. This is all totally understandable. But please PLEASE!! Find a way to keep your images safe!

Here’s two examples from my sister and friend. My sister’s computer hard drive completely fried. She called me in tears saying all her kids pictures were lost forever. All she had was what she posted on Facebook and that wasn’t much! She didn’t even have prints. She was so heartbroken and takes precaution with all her images now. Second, I took some hospital pictures for my friend about 6 years ago. I don’t keep my clients files for that long. She wanted to print some but was ashamed to tell me she saved them to an old laptop but didn’t even know where that was anymore. All she had was Facebook images she shared. The quality was no where near good enough to print. She was so sad.

You never know what can happen to computers, hard drives, prints etc! I suggest keeping your most precious memories safe in multiple ways.
Here are my favorite ways to backup your newborn photos!
I’d pick a few!
- Save to your computer! This is a great way to save large files for printing later. You can download your images in their original size so they don’t loose quality.
- Save to an external hard drive. I bought this one on Amazon. This is a great option for large images as well. It helps keep your computers memory free and you can open in it on any computer. Thumb drives are similar to this but don’t hold as much memory. I prefer the large 2-3TB.
- Use an online cloud service. This is great for a back up option. You never know when your computer or external hard drives could become corrupt or destroyed in a accident. I personally use Google Photos and even pay a few dollars extra a month for more storage. Its so easy for me to access on my computer and phone. Other options are iCloud, Flicker, and Dropbox.
- Social Media like Facebook, Instagram, or even basic phone storage. These are the least ideal place to keep high quality photos. They are great for quick access and being able to view and share your newborn photos easily. However, these are not full size files and won’t print well.
- Print your newborn photos! This is another great option for long term memory keeping. You won’t need a computer, charging or connecting cord, wifi, or even a login/password. They are tangible and beautiful. Give them away as gifts (great for back-ups) print them into an album to look at through the years. I offer archival prints with archival ink and paper that have a lifespan of 100 years!! That is truly amazing. I offer prints, Albums, folio boxes and wall art.
